The Firm>Methods>A modern computer system in constant
The computer network of Véron & Associés is structured around the following main points:
To preserve confidentiality and to keep the control of its computer tool, all the data for external restricted diffusion are hosted on equipments and servers internal to the law firm.
The main groups in terms of computer activities, e.g.: file sharing, electronic messaging, printers sharing, electronic document management, are distributed among specific servers, which are highly secured against failures or intrusions.
Véron & Associés today has four Microsoft Windows 2000 Servers and one Linux server for CD-ROM sharing.
All the workstations in Véron & Associés are operating with Microsoft Windows XP, i.e. little less than thirty computers whose minimum configuration is Pentium 4 2 GHz with 256 Mo of memory.
All the workstations are remote-manageable. They are also completely independent of the user; the exchange of a machine in case of failure is thus totally imperceptible. The user will find his computer environment in its entirety on its new machine.
The user who is out of the law firm works on machines equipped with the “thin client” technology, which enables him to treat any types of documents as if he was physically in the law firm.
Véron & Associés is equipped with the most technologically developed anti-virus and anti-intrusion protection solutions. Their perpetual updating is the guarantee of the best possible reply to the current risks mainly conveyed by the Internet. The most sensitive ones have a double protection as security measures.
A very specific care is brought to the sensitive areas that are the interfaces with the outside: the wireless WIFI network and the connection to the Internet.
Voluntarily, the choice of the computer tools of Véron & Associés has always been based on non proprietary solutions that can be hence developed. The example of the word processor is quite significant, since the keyboard equivalents for the macro-commands used by the secretaries remains practically unchanged since 1985, although the development of the computer tools has been great since then.
The automation tools for producing documents in Véron & Associés are the result of almost 20 years of experience in this matter. This experience combined with the current technological developments of micro-computer science extends now beyond the framework of the document production to cover the following fields:
The creation of effective tools for electronic documentary research is one of the major concerns of Véron & Associés since the appearance of CD-ROMs in the world of legal edition and now the development of the Internet. The computer network of Véron & Associés currently shares more than 100 CD-ROMs distributed between legal documentation and software library.
Véron & Associés is now able to offer to his members an access to its computer tools from anywhere in the world; of course, this access is coupled with all the security that the clients may require.
The law firm has the necessary resources to study and finalize any solutions in matters of network interconnection, information exchange and sharing that some files might require.
